- RELEASE NOTES
- ------------------------------------------------
-
- SAVE $$ WITH 3COM TOLLMIZER FEATURE
-
- The TollMizer feature allows you to place a data call
- using a voice channel, saving the extra cost of the data channel.
- Combining TollMizer with 3ComImpact IQ compression, you can
- transfer up to 128 Kbps of data for the price of a single voice call.
- The receiving end must be capable of generating the 2.1 kHz tone
- required to disable the echo cancellers on the line. The
- 3Com AccessBuilder 8000, Ascend Max and Ascend Pipeline products
- offer this feature. Note that the 3ComImpact IQ ISDN modem is not
- listed. This is because the 3ComImpact IQ ISDN modem cannot
- generate the 2.1 kHz tone; therefore, you cannot use the TollMizer
- feature between two 3ComImpact IQ ISDN modems.
-
- You can select this feature from the 3ComImpact IQ Configuration
- dialog box. Once enabled, all outgoing ISDN calls will be
- TollMizer calls. Note that to place calls to devices which do
- not support this feature, you must disable this feature either via
- the 3ComImpact IQ Configuration dialog box or by setting
- S register 61=0.
-
- Alternatively, you can place TollMizer calls
- on a call by call basis using the command ATDD <telephone number>.
- Refer to Chapter 6 Placing and Receiving Calls in the 3ComImpact IQ
- User Guide for detailed instructions. Note that the User Guide refers
- to this feature as 56 K TollSaver.
-
- Before using the TollMizer feature, check with your Internet
- service provider to verify that they support it and that it is enabled.
-
- To configure an Ascend Max or Pipeline to support this feature,
- from the Main menu of the Ascend Max or Pipeline, go to Ethernet.
- Then, go to Connections and then Telco Options.
- Under Telco Options, find the Data Service field. Change the value
- of the Data Service field to voice.
-
-
- CONFIGURING A 3COMIMPACT IQ ISDN MODEM WHEN TWO ARE CONNECTED
- TO YOUR COMPUTER
-
- The ISDN modem software automatically determines
- to which COM port of your computer the ISDN
- modem is connected. Note that if you happen to
- have two 3ComImpact IQ ISDN modems connected to your
- PC's COM ports, it's not possible to distinguish to
- which 3ComImpact IQ ISDN modem you are trying to communicate.
- Disconnect one of the 3ComImpact IQ modems while you
- configure the other one.
-
-
- RESTORING THE 3COMIMPACT IQ ISDN MODEM TO AUTOBAUD MODE
-
- The 3ComImpact IQ normally autobauds (up to 115 Kbps)
- to match your computer COM port speed. If you fixed
- the baud rate of the modem using the AT$B command and
- the COM port speed of the connected computer no longer
- matches that rate, then you will not be able to communicate
- with the 3ComImpact IQ modem. You can restore the
- 3ComImpact IQ to autobaud mode by following these steps:
-
- 1) Use terminal emulation software on the connected computer
- to set the COM port of your computer to a low baud rate such
- as 1200 baud.
-
- 2) Power up your 3ComImpact IQ ISDN modem and then type the
- letter "a" repeatedly, from your keyboard, until
- you see the letter "a" appear on the screen. (This may take
- approximately 10 to 15 seconds.) When you see the letter "a",
- this indicates that the ISDN modem is now running Autobaud
- and will adapt itself to the baud rate of your computer's
- COM port.
-
- 3) Send the command AT&W to the 3ComImpact IQ ISDN modem to save
- this change.
-
-
- A NOTE ABOUT CHAP AUTHENTICATION
-
- If you are using Microsoft Windows 95, Windows NT, or
- Windows for Workgroups, CHAP cannot be used when making
- Multilink PPP calls. CHAP is disabled by default. If you
- enable it, you must disable it by using the command AT S84=1
- before placing a Multilink PPP call.
-
-
- IF SPID WIZARD DOESN'T RUN
-
- If you have set up your 3ComImpact IQ ISDN modem for use with
- an ISDN line that uses a 5ESS Custom switch, and then you move
- your ISDN modem to another location and connect it to a different ISDN
- line, the SPID Wizard may not activate. If this occurs, do the following:
- (Note that these instructions assume that your ISDN line has only one
- telephone number. If you have two telephone numbers for your ISDN line
- and the SPID Wizard did not activate after you connected the ISDN modem
- to a different ISDN line, then contact 3Com Technical Support.)
-
- 1. From the Configuration window, enter the telephone number for
- your ISDN line in the Telephone Number 1 field.
-
- 2. Delete the information in the SPID 1, Telephone Number 2 and
- SPID 2 fields.
-
- 3. Click Update.
-
- 4. Click Exit and then power cycle the ISDN modem.
-
- Once the ISDN modem is power cycled, you are ready to place and
- receive calls.

- Upgrading Your 3ComImpact IQ ISDN Modem
- -----------------------------------------
-
- In the future, you may want to upgrade your
- 3ComImpact IQ ISDN modem. To download the latest
- release, follow these procedures.
-
- 1.Download the latest release from 3Com's FTP site to
- your computer. From ftp.3Com.com, go to:
- /pub/Software-Library/Files-By-Product-Family/modems/IQ-xxx.exe
-
- 2.These files have been compressed and must first
- be extracted.
-
- 3.Once the files are extracted, refer to the upgrade.txt
- file for release specific instructions regarding
- software installation and firmware download.
